PREPARING FOR THE EXAM
Similar to the last time, we asked Eric (who by the time had gathered a Solution Specialist, a Professional Developer, and a Professional Front End Developer certification) a few questions to learn how he prepared for the exam to give you guys some tips.
How would you compare the Magento 2 Professional Front-End Developer certification to the Magento 2 Professional Developer’s?
There is one thing the Magento 2 Professional Developer and the Magento 2 Professional Frontend Developer Exam have in common, it is the hands-on experience that plays the most important part.
Most of the questions in the exam are context-based, meaning you have to give your answer as a solution in a specific circumstance. For example: If you want to customize the layout ONLY for a product with a specific SKU, how do you implement it? 2 ways: You can update the layout of the product on the backend by editing “Layout XML update” in product edit. Or, customize in your theme code base under “catalog_product_view_sku_<that-product-SKU>.xml”.
The questions are about your deep understanding of Magento Frontend, which includes Layout Processing, Theme Customizing, Styling with LESS & CSS, and Frontend functionalities that can be configured in the back end.
Knowledge about Syntax is a must for the exam, learn different ways to customize functionality, which way has a higher priority.
Is there any section that you found to be particularly easier or harder than the rest?
I wouldn’t say there is no easy & hard part. There are just a lot of sections you need to cover. I have covered all the sections before taking the exam, so I was pretty confident.
Any further advice for the people looking to take the certification?
The Frontend exam is pretty fun for me personally because I have always liked context-based questions. The exam is very specific, so I would advise debugging deeply into the core of Magento and trying as many ways as possible to customize a function. What is the best way? What will override the others?
The exam comes down to whether you have been customizing a lot of Magento 2 Frontend, so if you are, the certificate is as good as yours.
If you’re looking for documentation, I’d suggest the base Magento 2 Frontend Developer Guide, you can find it here: https://devdocs.magento.com/guides/v2.2/frontend-dev-guide/bk-frontend-dev-guide.html. It has all the sections you need to cover, although, they’re just headlines and are not very specific so the rest is up to you.
Thank you, Eric. Have a nice day!
Thanks, you too.
