Companion with Magento LIVE Australia 2018

We just got back from Magento Live Australia 2018. It was the first time I was on such a long flight but thankfully the jetlag was not very serious.

Some impressions…

First impression: the weather is very comfortable. I expected to have more time but it was just half a day for sightseeing: The Opera House, Circular Quay, … We spent the end of the afternoon for dinner with an old client, with traditional Australian food. That was when the second impression came in: everything was extremely expensive, but it was worth the experience after all.

Second and third day were about the event. Magento did a great job hosting it at a nice venue on the third floor of Hilton Sydney. The sessions and break times were organized neatly for time for presentation and networking. There indeed were so many lovely people who had the same interest in Magento that we can talk and share with.

And a chance to make friends

Agencies’ booths were also a good place to get to know more people and learn about their work. Most of the big names were there: Balance Internet, Dotmailer, … but mostly it was about 400 people from merchants, tech providers and agencies that filled the room with excitement and business talks. We strolled around the venue couple of times, visited sponsors’ stands find out about their business and try to make some friends. Apart from some Magento solution providers stands, there were also companies who specialized in different areas of ecommerce such as security, email marketing platforms, marketing automation tools, and even payment gateways.

There were various business and technical sessions throughout the event. It was particularly interesting in sessions about the upcoming AIs and PWA technologies that Magento was building, really stuff that would help Magento up the game in the ecommerce war. There were also some general sessions where Magento’s head executives talked about the business.

The most interesting part was the bar. They told that’s kind of a Magento’s tradition where they took people to the bar for more beverages and of course, more networking. I questioned that idea at first but a while after being there, I shocked with the extremely crowded and excited atmosphere. People were much more open for talks with a beer on their hands, and we had some very nice talks with more people there.

I didn’t feel like leaving but we made it home after 12 more hours of flight eventually. It was well worth the time and money spent, so I definitely recommend it if you are working in the business or having interest in the eCommerce industry in general.
